I am an Indonesian and lived in Japan three years ago. As a third party, I want to talk about my ideas. According to my experience, I do think that many Japanese (most people) do not like Chinese people in their hearts. They are ambitious and want to replace China. I work part-time in Izakaya (a Japanese restaurant), and some customers (I haven't counted them, but I have experienced them more than a few times) directly told me that they don't like or hate Chinese people because of their poor attitude and the low quality of the products they produce, so in general, Japanese feel superior to Chinese people.

I think there are several reasons for this behavior:

1. This may be because the Japanese feel threatened by China in their hearts. You can now see many products made in China all over the world. Although Japanese products still have a good image in the international market, you can see that China is booming in the world economy and has surpassed Japan to become the second largest economy. I think this actually hurt Japan's pride as the tiger of Asia and stimulated their sense of competition with China.

2. Some Japanese said that they felt guilty and sorry for what they had done to China or South Korea, but to be honest, I don't think they really thought so. Japan is now a peaceful country, and they teach that war is cruel, but as we all know, the Japanese government has never officially recognized their behavior, and they have never really taught them what they do. Most people refuse the existence of "comfort women", and do not know that their army once held a competition to kill 100 Chinese with a sword. (I only talked about the issue of "comfort women" with two other Japanese at different times, but they both denied it)

3. Japanese news doesn't like China so much. They often only show the bad side and news of China.

4. They think they have done enough and apologize for what they have done in the past. I mean, since they are not victims, it's easier to say let's move on. However, I know that the Japanese government has also made a large donation to Indonesia as an apology. (Because my university professor told his experience when he served as a Japanese-Indonesian interpreter.) However, because Indonesian (even now) is a corrupt country, the government seeks benefits for itself, and never really benefits civilians.

5. Tourists and Chinese students are rude or have different culture and vision. There is no problem with different cultures. There are only many Chinese students. When I was a student, I knew that even if they live in Japan, they will bring bad habits or conflict culture.

I think the biggest reason why Japanese hate China is probably because they are brainwashed by the media and political issues. In addition, every country has people who do not respect people.
