英语学习中，经常涉及到冠词的用法填空及选择，在学习定冠词the之前我们先来了解一下冠词的定义及分类吧。
一、冠词是一种虚词，本身不能单独使用，也没有词义，它用在名词的前面(相当于名词的帽子)，帮助指明名词的含义。（定义）
此外你还必须要知道：冠词的泛指、特指
泛指是指首次提到的、不限定的人或事物。
特指是指在上文已提到的人或事物，也可以指双方心目中所默认的特定的人或事物。
二、冠词的分类
定冠词(the)，不定冠词(a/an)、零冠词。
三、定冠词的用法
（1）用在表示特指的人或物的名词前
The book on the desk is mine.
Would you mind turning down the radio a little? The baby is sleeping.
（2）用在姓氏复数前，表一家人或夫妇二人
The Greens are at table.格林一家在吃饭。
The Chens are going to move to Beijing.姓陈的一家要搬到北京去。
(3) 用在年代、朝代名词及逢十的数次（表某个年代前）或用在表示方位的名词前。
the Tang Dynasty唐朝；the Spring and Autumn Period春秋时期；in the 1990s在20世纪90年代；the north北方/部
（4）表示在世界上独一无二的事物前
the sun, the moon, the earth, the sky, the world

（5）在序数词、形容词最高级前，常用定冠词the
1.January is the first month of the year.
2.Shanghai is the biggest city in China.
3.Last month, the most powerful storm hit the US mainland.
（6）“the 形容词或分词”有时也可表类指
the rich有钱人；the poor穷人；the young 年轻人；the old 老人
the dead死者；the deaf 聋人；the homeless无家可归的人
the wounded伤员；the living生者；the dying死者
the unknown未知的事物
（7）用在某些固定结构/习惯用语
in the end最后；终于；in the distance在远处；on the whole总之
at the same time同时；for the time being暂时
in the morning在早上/上午；in the afternoon在下午；in the evening在晚上
make the most/best of充分利用
at the moment此刻；by the way顺便说一下
to tell you the truth说实话；老实说；in the long run从长远来看
on the one hand...on the other hand一方面···另一方面
