英语中表示“不”的单词有两个，“no”和“not”，那他们在用法上有什么区别呢？
not
1. not是个副词,它常位于be动词、情态动词和助动词之后,其意为“不”。
例如:
The sanctions are not working the way they were intended.
制裁没有像他们原本打算的那样奏效。
She couldn't always afford a babysitter.
她并非总能雇得起一名临时保姆。
I don't trust my father anymore.
我再也不相信我父亲了。
2.not可位于动名词、现在分词和不定式符号to之前,构成其否定形式。
例如：
The teacher told him not to be late again.
老师叫他不要再迟到。
Not having received an answer, he decided to write another answer to her.
由于没接到回信，他决定再给她写封信。
3. not可以与every, both, all等词连用,意思是“并非,不都是”,表示部分否定。
例如:
Not both of them are teachers.
并非两个人都是老师。
Not all kids have time to go shopping.
并非所有的孩子都有时间去购物。
Not every student in this class is hardworking.
这班的学生并非每一个都是用功的。
4.not也可用在省略结构中,代替前面提到的词,短语或者句子的否定形式。
例如:
Hurry up. If not, we will miss the last bus.
快,否则我们会错过末班车的。

用于引导否定的回答
例如:
Do you want to play basketball with me，Jack?
你想和我一起打篮球吗，杰克？
-No, I don't.
不,我不想。
no用于谢绝对方的建议或帮助。
例如：
Will you please eat some fruits?
吃点水果吧?
-No, thanks.
不,谢谢。
Can I help you?
我有什么能帮助你的吗？
-No, thanks.
不用，谢谢。
no用于表示不同意对方的请求。
例如：
-Can you lend me your iphone?
能把你的苹果手机借我吗？
-No, I can't.
哦,不行。
no用于形容词和副词的比较级前,意思为“一点也不”。
例如:
They are no older. They seems to be younger than us.
他们一点儿也不老,看起来比我们还年轻。
2. no用作名词，意思是“否定者”或“反对者”。
例如:
The noes are crowding there.
反对者正拥挤在那儿。
Two noes make a yes.
两个否定构成的肯定。
3.no用作形容词
当no放在可数名词单数前面时,意思是“没有的”, “完全不是的”。例如:
No teacher and no student has come to the classroom.
教师和学生一个都没有来教室。
John is no docter.
乔恩根本不是医生。
no用于命令或标牌中,意思是“禁止的"。
例如:
No swimming.
禁止游泳
No smoking.
禁止吸烟
no用于“there is no doing”结构中,意思是“不可能”。
例如:
There is no knowing how the ancient Egyptians built the
pyramids.
不可能知道古代埃及人是如何建造金字塔的。
There is no knowing what may happen tomorrow.
谁也不知道明天将发生什么。
例如:
Nobody agrees with what you said.
没有人同意你所说的话。
Nothing happens between us at all in that time.
