今天要和大家说一说，我们非常熟悉的单词——table。
众所周知，table意思是“桌子”，小学老师就教过。
但是，今天我们要来说点大家都不知道的，table其实除了“桌子” 还有很多你所不知道的意思...就比如"nine-nine table"。
说到这个nine-nine table ,小伙伴们是否第一直觉就是“九人桌”？
又或者是这样的 ↓
但其实nine-nine table是九九乘法表，乘法表可以用times table表示，书面用语是multiplication table。
这边的table用的是“表格”的意思。
我们一起重新认识一下这个熟悉的陌生词table吧！

- n.桌子；表格；平底层
- vt.制表；耽搁；嵌合
table也可以作动词！
①table作动词，常用于美语，意思是搁置提议或计划。
例子：
- Let‘s table this for later.
-我们日后再说。
②table作动词，还可以表示 “提议；正式提出”。
- They have tabled a motion.
-他们正式提交了一个决议。
table相关的短语和习语，我们一起来了解一下。
on the table
on the table直译就是在桌子上，可以引申为公开地，相反off the table就是指不予讨论、离开桌面。
例子：
- We know they can't sign an illegal agreement, but let's take that off the table.
-我们都知道他们不能签署违法合同，那就只能不予讨论了。
on the table搭配不同的动词，有很多不同的意思哦！
①put food on the table是一句美国俚语，意思是养家糊口。
例子：
- They work all day long, just to put food on the table.
-他们终日辛劳，只不过是为了养家糊口。
②put your cards on the table这个习语是从打牌中来的，在牌桌把牌亮出来，就是开诚布公、坦白说的意思。
例子：
I wish that you would put your cards on the table.
我希望你干脆把话挑明。
③leave it on the table本意是把...留在桌上，也可以理解为（把事情）放一放，以后再说。
例子：
- If we can't reach an agreement, just leave it on the table!
-如果我们不能达成一致，就以后再说。
at the table和at table大不同
at the table是指在餐桌前、坐在餐桌旁，不一定在吃饭，也可以引申为在谈判中；而at table是指吃饭、就餐，强调“吃饭”这个动作进行时。
例子：
- We have dinner at the table together.
-我们一起在餐桌旁吃的晚餐。
- We found them at table.
-我发现他们正在就餐。
